Bollywood awards are losing their relevance and are nothing more than watching the stars perform, delivering acceptance speeches and taking red carpet photos. The entire film fraternity attending the functions is necessarily not under the impression that the best actor or film will be awarded. However, the consensus after the award function seems to be that it is nice to see the deserving actor or film bagging the prize.

Aamir Khan is one of the few actors who have spoken openly regarding this issue. He has been boycotting award ceremonies since a long time as the power, money and influence has eroded the credibility of the bollywood awards. Awards have lost their sole purpose of recognising the outstanding performer and promoting the country’s talent. Most of the awardees are the ones who are in good terms with the sponsors and who can lobby best in the domain of the organisers. Not all awards are going to the legitimate owners and also they are not in sync with the expectations of the audiences. The need of the hour is that apart from portraying glamour and flamboyance, awards should promote enterprise and honour effort, thereby working towards advancing the interests of mankind.
